Introducing Ask the Practical Ergonomist

I want to create a place where you, the every day person, can ask an ergonomics related questions.

Wait a second! I know what you are thinking. Ergo…what? Most people don’t know or understand what this word means, and frankly it doesn’t matter if you know what it means or not.

But what I will tell you is that every day we do “things” – we drive cars, we endlessly scroll and stare at our phones and tablets, we mow grass, we paint rooms, we go fishing, we go for a walk, we read books, we prepare meals, we travel, we brush our teeth, we sleep . . . you get the picture.

Ergonomics has a role in everything we do. The principles behind this trendy word can improve the work you do, can reduce your risk for injury, can make you more efficient, and can improve how you feel.

My simple three-word answer to how I define ergonomics is safety (injury prevention), quality (desired outcomes), and efficiency (energy conservation).

I want to know what interests you. I want to answer your questions related to ergonomics with the purpose of making your life better. I’ll start it off with a few questions I’ve commonly been asked over the years.
